50. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy w Cannes

50. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy w Cannes odbył się w dniach 7–18 maja 1997 roku. Imprezę otworzył pokaz francuskiego filmu Piąty element w reżyserii Luka Bessona[1]. W konkursie głównym zaprezentowanych zostało 20 filmów pochodzących z 11 różnych krajów.

Jury pod przewodnictwem francuskiej aktorki Isabelle Adjani przyznało nagrodę główną festiwalu, Złotą Palmę, ex aequo irańskiemu filmowi Smak wiśni w reżyserii Abbasa Kiarostamiego oraz japońskiemu filmowi Węgorz w reżyserii Shōhei Imamury. Drugą nagrodę w konkursie głównym, Grand Prix, przyznano kanadyjskiemu obrazowi Słodkie jutro w reżyserii Atoma Egoyana[2][3].

Galę otwarcia i zamknięcia festiwalu prowadziła francuska aktorka Jeanne Moreau[4].

The Flag of India. The colours are saffron, white and green. The navy blue wheel in the center of the flag has a diameter approximately the width of the white band and is called Ashoka's Dharma Chakra, with 24 spokes (after Ashoka, the Great). Each spoke depicts one hour of the day, portraying the prevalence of righteousness all 24 hours of it.
