53. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy w Cannes
53. Międzynarodowy Festiwal Filmowy w Cannes odbył się w dniach 14-25 maja 2000 roku. Imprezę otworzył pokaz brytyjskiego filmu Vatel w reżyserii Rolanda Joffé[1]. W konkursie głównym zaprezentowane zostały 23 filmy pochodzące z 14 różnych krajów.
Jury pod przewodnictwem francuskiego reżysera Luka Bessona przyznało nagrodę główną festiwalu, Złotą Palmę, duńskiemu filmowi Tańcząc w ciemnościach w reżyserii Larsa von Triera. Drugą nagrodę w konkursie głównym, Grand Prix, przyznano chińskiemu obrazowi Diabły za progiem w reżyserii Jianga Wena[2][3].
Galę otwarcia i zamknięcia festiwalu prowadziła francuska aktorka Virginie Ledoyen[4].

The navy blue wheel in the center of the flag has a diameter approximately the width of the white band and is called Ashoka's Dharma Chakra, with 24 spokes (after Ashoka, the Great). Each spoke depicts one hour of the day, portraying the prevalence of righteousness all 24 hours of it.
