AMC Ambassador I został zaprezentowany po raz pierwszy w 1966 roku.
W międzyczasie cyklu produkcyjego czwartej generacji Ramblera Ambassadora, koncern American Motors zdecydował się przemianować swoją ofertę modelową z marki Rambler na AMC. W efekcie, poczynając od 1966 roku model Ambassador oferowany był już pod inną nazwą przez kolejny rok, do 1967 roku.
Pod kątem wizualnym AMC Ambassador pierwszej generacji nie odróżniał się od modelu ze znaczkiem Ramblera, zachowując podwójne pionowo umieszczone reflektory i przetłoczenia na panelach bocznych[1].

AMC Ambassador II został zaprezentowany po raz pierwszy w 1967 roku.
Druga generacja modelu Ambassador została tym razem opracowana już od początku pod marką AMC jako obszernie zmodernizowana konstrukcja.
Samochód zyskał dłuższe, niższe i szersze nadwozie[2], które pod kątem stylistycznym stanowiło rozwinięcie stylistyki z poprzednika. Z przodu ponownie pojawiły się podwójne, pionowo umieszczone reflektory i duża, szeroka atrapa chłodnicy. Podobny motyw zastosowano tym razem także w tylnej części nadwozia[3].

AMC Ambassador III został zaprezentowany po raz pierwszy w 1969 roku.
Trzecia generacja AMC Ambassadora przyniosła obszerne modyfikacje wizualne. Z przodu pojawiła się duża owalna atrapa chłodnicy dominująca pas przedni, która łączyła się ze zwężonym zderzakiem i wybrzuszoną maską[4].
Ponadto, pas przedni zdobiły podwójne okrągłe reflektory, z kolei tylną część nadwozia przyozdobiły wąskie, prostokątne lampy w jednym pasie z dużym, wykończonym chromem zderzakiem. Klamki zyskały kasetową formę, zyskując prostokątny kształt[5].

AMC Ambassador IV został zaprezentowany po raz pierwszy w 1973 roku.
Czwarta i ostatnia generacja Ambassadora przyniosła kolejne obszerne modyfikacje wizualne. Z przodu pojawiła się węższa, podłużna atrapa chłodnicy, która stanowiła jeden pas z podwójnymi, okrągłymi reflektorami umieszczonymi poziomo[6].
Tylna część nadwozia zyskała z kolei podłużne, prostokątne lampy stanowiące większą część szerokości nadwozia. W połowie dzieliło je wąskie wgłębienie na tablicę rejestracyjną.

1968 AMC Ambassador, a full-size automobile made by American Motors Corporation. This DPL "Cross Country" station wagon has the 343 CID (5.6 L) V8 engine and factory standard air conditioning, as well as the roof cargo rack and a two-way opening tailgate (drop down for long cargo or opens as a door hinged on the left side). This car has the standard individual adjustable reclining front seats and seating capacity for six adults. It has AMC's optional "Turbocast" full wheel covers. However, the air deflectors mounted on the rear sides are aftermarket accessories to help reduce accumulation of dust/dirt on the tailgate window.

I traveled to Walser Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, in Hopkins MN, to get the recalled air bag repaired on my Dodge Magnum. Despite the messy conditions, i brought my camera. I was surprised to find some interesting cars out in the slop.
I missed getting a picture of a 1971 Ford LTD Convertible though. Traffic was heavy, conditions were messy and there was not a safe place to park.1966 AMC Ambassador DPL 2-door hardtop (no B-pillar) by American Motors Corporation (AMC). 1966 Ambassador 990 convertible by American Motors Corporation (AMC). This car is finished in "Frost White" (paint code 72) with a vinyl coated nylon top (Note: convertible tops were available in black, white, tan, and aqua for the 1966 model year). It has aftermarket wheels. Note: the emblems are not in their correct positions on the fender sides.
