Flaga stanowa Hawajów ma niemal taki sam wzór jak przyjęta w 1816 roku flaga Królestwa Hawajów. Łączy symbole Wielkiej Brytanii i USA (trójbarwne pasy bandery z XIX wieku). Osiem pasów symbolizuje osiem głównych wysp archipelagu:
