Barwy flagi stanowej Tennessee, wzięto z flagi państwowej. Symbolizują czystość (biały), wzniosłe cele (niebieski) i sławę Tennessee (czerwony). Trzy gwiazdy reprezentują trzy geograficzne regiony stanu oraz fakt, że był trzecim stanem przyjętym do USA po pierwszych trzynastu koloniach. Krąg jest symbolem jedności.
