Janelle Monáe Robinson (ur. 1 grudnia 1985 w Kansas City[1]) – amerykańska piosenkarka, aktorka, tancerka, autorka tekstów oraz performerka. W muzyce łączy style takie, jak soul, jazz, R&B, hip hop i punk.
Życiorys
Pochodzi z Kansas City, które szybko opuściła w poszukiwaniu muzycznych inspiracji. Udała się do Nowego Jorku, gdzie studiowała w The American Musical and Dramatics Academy.
Kolejnym punktem na mapie muzycznych poszukiwań Janelle Monae okazała się Atlanta. Jak stwierdziła, była „gotowa żeby wreszcie zrobić coś dużego i dzikiego” i przenieść się do kolebki progresywnego soulu i hip hopu. To właśnie tam w 2003 ukazał się jej debiutancki krążek, zatytułowany Audition. W 2005 nagrała wraz z zespołem Outkast utwory Call the Law i In Your Dreams, które znalazły się na ścieżce dźwiękowej Idlewild. W 2007 ukazał się minialbum, zatytułowany Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase). 18 maja 2010 wydała album The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III), z którego wyszły takie single jak Come Alive (The War of the Roses), Tightrope (z udziałem Antwana Pattona) oraz Cold War. Choreografia z teledysku Tightrope została nominowana do nagród MTV Video Music Awards 2010 w kategorii Najlepsza Choreografia.
Jest producentką i współzałożycielką wytwórni „The Wondaland Arts Society”.
W kwietniu 2022 r. w wywiadzie udzielonym w ramach promocji swojej książki „The Memory Librarian: And Other Stories of Dirty Computer”, dokonała coming outu jako osoba niebinarna[2].

The film is based on the book of the same title, by Margot Lee Shetterly, and chronicles the lives of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson -- African-American women working at NASA as “human computers,” who were critical to the success of John Glenn’s Friendship 7 mission in 1962.
