Lis[14] (Vulpes) – rodzaj ssaka drapieżnych z rodziny psowatych (Canidae).

Zasięg występowania

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Eurazji, Afryce i Ameryce Północnej[15][16][17].

Morfologia

Długość ciała 33,3–90 cm, długość ogona 12,5–44 cm; masa ciała samic 0,8–7 kg, samców 0,8–14 kg[16].

Systematyka

Etymologia

  • Vulpes (Vulpis): łac. vulpes, volpe lub vulpis „lis”[18].
  • Fennecus: mauretańska nazwa fennec lub fennek dla lisa[19]. Gatunek typowy: Fennecus arabicus Desmarest, 1804 (= Canis zerda A.E.W. Zimmermann, 1780).
  • Megalotis: gr. μεγαλως megalōs „niezmiernie”, od μεγας megas, μεγαλη megalē „wielki”; -ωτις -ōtis „-uchy”, od ους ous, ωτος ōtos „ucho”[20]. Gatunek typowy: Canis cerdo J.F. Gmelin, 1788 (= Canis zerda A.E.W. Zimmermann, 1780).
  • Alopex: gr. αλωπηξ alōpēx, αλωπεκος alōpekos „lis”[21]. Gatunek typowy: Canis lagopus Linnaeus, 1758.
  • Cynalopex: gr. κυναλωπηξ kunalōpēx „pies-lis”, od κυων kuōn, κυνος kunos „pies”; αλωπηξ alōpēx, αλωπεκος alōpekos „lis”[22]. Gatunek typowy: Cynalopex insectivorus C.H. Smith, 1839 (= Canis bengalensis Shaw, 1800).
  • Leucocyon: gr. λευκος leukos „biały”; κυων kuōn, κυνος kunos „pies”[23]. Gatunek typowy: Canis lagopus Linnaeus, 1758<.
  • Mamvulpesus: modyfikacja zaproponowana przez meksykańskiego przyrodnika Alfonso Luisa Herrerę w 1899 roku polegająca na dodaniu do nazwy rodzaju przedrostka „Mam” (od Mammalia)[24].
  • Xenalopex: gr. ξενος xenos „obcy, dziwny”[25]; αλωπηξ alōpēx, αλωπεκος alōpekos „lis”[26]. Gatunek typowy: †Xenalopex remenyii Kretzoi, 1954.
