London Borough of Richmond upon Thames – jedna z 32 gmin Wielkiego Londynu położona w jego południowo-zachodniej części. Jest to jedyna londyńska gmina usytuowana po obu brzegach Tamizy. Wraz z 19 innymi gminami wchodzi w skład tzw. Londynu Zewnętrznego. Władzę stanowi Rada Gminy Richmond upon Thames (ang. Richmond upon Thames Council).

Historia

Gminę utworzono w 1965 roku na podstawie ustawy London Government Act 1963[2] z obszarów Twickenham (ang. Municipal Borough of Twickenham)[3] utworzonego w 1926 roku, Richmond (ang. Municipal Borough of Richmond) utworzonego w 1890 roku[4] oraz Barnes (ang. Municipal Borough of Barnes) utworzonego w 1932 roku[5]. Znajdowało się tutaj jedno z najbardziej znanych londyńskich studiów nagrań - Olympic Studios, które zostało zamknięte w 2008 roku.

Geografia

Gmina Richmond upon Thames ma powierzchnię 57,41 km2, graniczy od północy z Hounslow, od północnego wschodu przez Tamizę z Hammersmith and Fulham, od wschodu z Wandsworth, od południa z Kingston upon Thames, zaś od zachodu z dystryktem Spelthorne oraz przez Tamizę z dystryktem Elmbridge w hrabstwie Surrey.

The navy blue wheel in the center of the flag has a diameter approximately the width of the white band and is called Ashoka's Dharma Chakra, with 24 spokes (after Ashoka, the Great). Each spoke depicts one hour of the day, portraying the prevalence of righteousness all 24 hours of it.
