Lotus Esprit – sportowy samochód osobowy produkowany przez brytyjską firmę Lotus w latach 1976-2004. Dostępny jako 2-drzwiowe coupé. Do napędu używano turbodoładowanych silników R4, pod koniec produkcji dostępna była wersja z silnikiem V8. Moc przenoszona była na oś tylną poprzez 5-biegową manualną skrzynię biegów. Przez cały okres produkcji powstało 10 675 egzemplarzy Esprita[1]. Nowy Esprit miał pojawić się w sprzedaży w roku 2012[2], jednak przełożono to na wiosnę 2014[3]. Sugerowana cena to 175 tys. dolarów[3].

Auto pojawiło się w kilku głośnych filmach swej epoki. Można je zobaczyć w dwóch filmach cyklu o Jamesie Bondzie – Szpieg, który mnie kochał z 1977 (S1) i Tylko dla twoich oczu z 1981 (dwa egzemplarze Essex Turbo). Model X180 "wystąpił" w kultowym Pretty Woman 1990. Inne filmy z udziałem tego samochodu to nie mniej znane: Krokodyl Dundee II z 1988 i Żółtodziób z 1990 oraz Nagi instynkt z 1992, a także mniej głośne: Dbać o interes z 1990 i Szpieg bez matury z 1991[4].

The Spy Who Loved Me - Roger Moore
Lotus Esprit 'Wet Nellie' Whilst enjoying a drive in his new Lotus Esprit on Sardinia, Roger Moore's Bond is soon involved in a chase with Stromberg's henchmen. Driving off a pier straight into the sea it looks like the end for Bond. However, 'Wet Nellie' is a clever girl and converts into a submarine. Equipped with a bulletproof periscope, Bond uses a surface to air missile to destroy his pursuer. Beach goers were certainly surprised when the Lotus emerged from the sea onto the beach.
The World of James Bond 007 is full of action, excitement, drama and danger. The high octane, all action car and vehicle chases are at the heart of the Bond franchise. There is unique story behind every vehicle and every death defying stunt culminates in the exhilarating screen image. From speed boats leaping roads and cars submerging to exotic locations, ranging from tropical islands to the North Pole the action never ceases. Vehicles with gadgets and armouries add to the thrills with Bond having to be ever more resourceful in his battles with the increasingly technical and sophisticated villains. BOND in MOTION is the story of the vehicles that keep the man behind the wheel moving and how the thrill a minute chase sequences pushed man and machine to the limit.
This new exhibition to Beaulieu is the world's largest official collection of original James Bond vehicles, on display for 2012 only, featuring 50 vehicles from the Bond films. With fifty vehicles on display, BOND IN MOTION is the largest official collection of original Bond vehicles the world has ever seen. On display until the 6th January 2013 at the National Motor Museum, this could be your only chance to see these vehicles on display together. 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film series and the 40th anniversary of the National Motor Museum (and the 60th anniversary of Beaulieu opening its doors to the public) and what better way to celebrate than with the biggest exhibition of James Bond vehicles ever staged?
Cars used in films starring Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig all feature in the exhibition.
