Tytuł mistrzów świata z 1978 broniła drużyna ze Stanów Zjednoczonych. Nowymi mistrzami zostali Norwegowie, którzy w finale pokonali Szwajcarów 5:4. Brązowy medal zdobyli Kanadyjczycy.
