Rzut dyskiem kobiet był jedną z konkurencji rozgrywanych podczas VIII Mistrzostw Europy w Budapeszcie. Kwalifikacje zostały rozegrane 31 sierpnia, a finał 1 września 1966. Zwyciężczynią tej konkurencji została reprezentantka NRD Christine Spielberg. W rywalizacji wzięło udział czternaście zawodniczek z dziewięciu reprezentacji.

Der Beitrag des einen mag bescheiden erscheinen, der den anderen bedeutender, aber alle eint der Wunsch, nicht abseite zu stehen." Das sagte die Europameisterschafts-Dritte von Budapest im Diskuswerfen, Anita Hentschel (SC Chemie Halle-Archivfoto) , zu den bevorstehenden Volkswahlen. Die 24jährige zukünftige Unterstufenlehrerin hält den DDR-Rekord mit 59,02 m. (Siehe ADN-Meldung Nr. 600 v. 21.06.1967)
