Pchnięcie kulą mężczyzn było jedną z konkurencji rozgrywanych podczas IX Mistrzostw Europy w Atenach. Kwalifikacje rozegrano 17 września, a finał 18 września 1969. Zwycięzcą tej konkurencji został reprezentant Niemieckiej Republiki Demokratycznej Dieter Hoffmann. Zawodnicy z NRD zajęli pierwsze trzy miejsca w konkursie. W rywalizacji wzięło udział dwudziestu dwóch zawodników z trzynastu reprezentacji.

ADN-ZB Mittelstädt 10.06.1972 Potsdam: Leichtathletik-Länderkampf DDR - Bulgarien (1.Tag) -Mit der ausgezeichneten Weite von 21,27 m gewann der Berliner Dynamo-Sportler Hans-Peter Gies (Foto vom DVfL-Pokalwettbewerb am 03.06.1972 in Potsdam) das Kugelstoßen der Männer. Damit verfehlte er den Europarekord nur um 5 cm.

ADN-ZB Kluge 28.08.1971 Berlin: Beim Leichtathletik-Länderkampf der Freundschaft -UdSSR-VR Polen-DDR am 28.08.1971 in Moskau stellte Heinz-Joachim Rothenburg (SC Dynamo Berlin) , hier bei einem früheren Wettkampf, im Kugelstoßen mit 21,12 m einen neuen Europarekord auf.

Zentralbild KohlsMa. 04.07.1968 Potsdam: Dieter Hoffmann stieß Europarekord. Einen neuen Europarekord im Kugelstoßen stellte der 26jährige Dieter Hoffmann (ASK Vorwärts Potsdam-Archivfoto) am 03.07.1968 bei Leichtathletik-Wettbewerben in Potsdam auf. Der 1,89 m große und 120 kg schwere Potsdamer kam auf 20,08 m und löste damit den bisherigen Rekordhalter Eduard Guschtschin (UdSSR-19,64 m) ab.
