Neisseriales – rząd gram-ujemnych betaproteobakterii, w którego skład wchodzą dwie rodziny: Neisseriaceae oraz Chromobacteriaceae[1]. Przedstawiciele Neisseriales mają zazwyczaj kształt ziarniaka lub pałeczki oraz nie wytwarzają przetrwalników[1]. Niektóre gatunki posiadają wici oraz pili[1]. Większość gatunków rośnie w temperaturze 32–36 °C[1]. Niektóre gatunki posiadają również otoczki bakteryjne[1]. Przedstawiciele rzędu Neisseriales różnią się od innych betaproteobakterii insercjami oraz delecjami w 10 genach kodujących białka takie jak deaminaza guaninowa (GuaD)[1].

Fluorescent antibody-stained image of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In a direct fluorescent antibody test, antibodies that have been chemically linked to a fluorescent dye, i.e. the marker, are added to a specimen suspected of containing a pathogen, in this case N. gonorrhoeae bacteria. If the pathogen is present, the antibodies link to the antigen to which they are sensitive - the N. gonorrhoeae bacterial cell wall, here - and under fluorescent microscopy, emit a green signal.
