Niebieska linia metra – jest linią metra tylko w potocznym tego słowa znaczeniu, ponieważ właściwie jest to naziemna linia lekkiej kolei miejskiej (light rail), posiadająca na swojej trasie jeden podziemny fragment. Trasa linii łączy śródmieście (downtown) Los Angeles na północy z centrum miasta Long Beach na południu. Linia jest obsługiwana przez Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Niebieska linia jest najstarszą linią kolejową w tej sieci metra. Linia ta jest obecnie najdłuższą i najbardziej obciążoną linią kolejową w systemie metra LACMTA, średnie około 80.000 pasażerów tygodniowo. Trasa niebieskiej linii przebiega od centrum Los Angeles przez gęsto zaludnione tereny South Los Angeles, Watts, Willowbrook, Compton i Long Beach. Trasa linii wiedzie także przez miasta Vernon, Huntington Park, Lynwood i Carson. Słynne Watts Towers można zobaczyć jadąc tramwajem blisko stacji 103rd Street/Watts Towers.

W rozkładach jazdy linia niebieska jest oznaczana również jako linia 801.

Historia

Pierwszy odcinek niebieskiej linii od stacji Pico-Chick Hearn w śródmieściu Los Angeles do stacji Anaheim Street w Long Beach został otwarty w dniu 14 lipca 1990. We wrześniu 1990 roku otwarto drugą część linii od stacji Anaheim do stacji Downtown Long Beach w centrum miasta Long Beach. Dnia 15 lutego 1991 roku oddano do użytku kolejną część linii od stacji Pico-Chick Hearn do podziemnej stacji 7th St/Metro Center, stycznej z czerwoną i fioletową linią metra.
