Oldsmobile Series 60 I został zaprezentowany po raz pierwszy w 1938 roku.

Pod koniec lat 30. XX wieku Oldsmobile przedstawiło nową linię modelową klasy wyższej, która w dotychczasowej ofercie marki zastąpiła linię F-Series[1].

Samochód uzyskał charakterystyczne dla amerykańskiej motoryzacji z późnych lat 30. zaokrąglone nadkola, szpiczastą maskę z zaokrąglonym zakończeniem oraz okrągłe reflektory. Tył zyskał łagodnie opadającą linię nadwozia z podłużnym bagażnikiem - w przypadku odmian z trójbryłową karoserią[2].

Oldsmobile Series 60 II został zaprezentowany po raz pierwszy w 1941 roku.

Druga generacja linii modelowej Series 60 przeszła obszerne modyfikacje wizualne, ze znacznie większym i masywniejszym nadwoziem. Pojawiły się wyraźniej zaznaczone nadkola, a także pojemniejsza kabina pasażerska z charakterystycznym, garbatym zakończeniem tylnej części nadwozia[3].

Australia

Druga generacja Series 60 była sprzedawana i produkowana także w Australii, gdzie samochód oferowano pod nazwą Oldsmobile Ace. Różnice wiuzualne obejmowały m.in. inny sposób otwierania tylnych drzwi[4].

Eagle Gray. The last pre-war Oldsmobile rolled off the assembly line on Feb 5, 1942. During World War II, Oldsmobile produced numerous kinds of material for the war effort, including large-caliber guns and shells. Production resumed on Oct 15, 1945 with a warmed-over 1942 with a new grille, In 1946, they were available in base 66, mid 76 and top 98, and in 4 door sedan, 2 door coupe and convertible. Oldsmobiles were built in Australia by GMH from 1923 to 29 and also from 1934 to 48.

The last of these Australian built cars, 1946-48 were called the Series 66 Oldsmobile Ace, they had the most local content ever, even the chassis was assembled here. The bodies were shared with Chevrolet and Pontiac GMH cars
