200 m stylem dowolnym kobiet – jedna z konkurencji pływackich, które odbyły się podczas XXIX Igrzysk Olimpijskich. Eliminacje miały miejsce 11 sierpnia, półfinał 12 sierpnia a finał konkurencji 13 sierpnia. Wszystkie etapy konkurencji przeprowadzone zostały na Pływalni Olimpijskiej w Pekinie.
Tytułu mistrzyni olimpijskiej z 2004 roku broniła Camelia Potec z Rumunii. Złoty medal w tej konkurencji zdobyła jednak Włoszka Federica Pellegrini, wicemistrzyni sprzed czterech lat, która zarówno w eliminacjach jak i w finale ustanowiła nowy rekord świata (1:54,82 min). Srebro wywalczyła reprezentantka Słowenii Sara Isaković, która jako pierwsza Słowenka otrzymała medal olimpijski w pływaniu. Brąz zdobyła Pang Jiaying, Chinka, która w eliminacjach poprawiła 20-letni rekord olimpijski ustanowiony na igrzyskach olimpijskich w Seulu. Jej wynik został pobity jeszcze w wyścigach eliminacyjnych przez Sarę Isaković, a następnie przez Federicę Pellegrini.
