50 m stylem dowolnym kobiet – jedna z konkurencji pływackich, które odbyły się podczas XXIX Igrzysk Olimpijskich. Eliminacje miały miejsce 15 sierpnia, półfinał 16 sierpnia a finał konkurencji 17 sierpnia. Wszystkie etapy konkurencji przeprowadzone zostały na Pływalni Olimpijskiej w Pekinie.
Mistrzynią olimpijską została Niemka Britta Steffen, która złoty medal wywalczyła także na dystansie 100 m stylem dowolnym. W finale 50 m kraulem Steffen z czasem 24,06 ustanowiła nowy rekord olimpijski. Drugie miejsce zajęła powracająca po ośmioletniej przerwie Dara Torres reprezentująca Stany Zjednoczone, która była tylko o 0,01 s wolniejsza od zwyciężczyni wyścigu. Torres stała się także pierwszą olimpijką, która po ukończeniu 40 lat brała udział w konkurencjach pływackich. W finale poprawiła swój rekord życiowy i rekord obu Ameryk, uzyskawszy czas 24,07. Brązowy medal zdobyła 16-letnia Cate Campbell z Australii[1].
