Wyścig na 200 m stylem dowolnym kobiet był jedną z konkurencji pływackich rozgrywanych podczas XXX Igrzysk Olimpijskich w Londynie.
Wyznaczone przez FINA minima kwalifikacyjne wynosiły 1:58.33 (minimum A) oraz 2:02.47 (minimum B)[1].
Obrończynią tytułu z Pekinu była Federica Pellegrini.
Rywalizacja rozpoczęła się 30 lipca o 10:00 czasu londyńskiego, półfinały rozegrane zostały tego samego dnia o 19:30. Finał konkurencji odbył się dzień później o 19:41[2] .
