Wyścig na 800 m stylem dowolnym kobiet był jedną z konkurencji pływackich rozgrywanych podczas XXX Igrzysk Olimpijskich w Londynie.
Wyznaczone przez FINA minima kwalifikacyjne wynosiły 8:33.84 (minimum A) oraz 8:51.82 (minimum B)[1].
Obrończynią tytułu z Pekinu była Rebecca Adlington.
Rywalizacja rozpoczęła się 2 sierpnia o 10:19 czasu londyńskiego, finał konkurencji odbył się dzień później o 19:45[2] .
