Partia Republikańska (ang. Republican Party) – amerykańska konserwatywna partia polityczna założona w 1854. Jedna z dwóch głównych sił politycznych w Stanach Zjednoczonych, obok Partii Demokratycznej. Potocznie nazywana „grand old party” (GOP).

Historia

Początki partii sięgają okresu sprzed wojny secesyjnej, kiedy to rósł w siłę ruch przeciwników niewolnictwa. Powstała Partia Wolnej Ziemi (Free Soil Party). Podobne organizacje pojawiały się i znikały, prowadziły jednak do wykrystalizowania się postaw i programów.

W latach 50. XIX wieku doszło do upadku systemu politycznego. Zniknęła Partia Wigów i doszło do rozłamu w Partii Demokratycznej[4].

XX wieku.

Od tamtego czasu partia ta pozostaje jedną z dwóch najważniejszych organizacji politycznych w USA. Według badań ankietowych Instytutu Gallupa identyfikację z Partią Republikańską w latach 1988–2013 deklarowało od 25 do 34 proc. Amerykanów[6].

Program polityczny

Wśród Republikanów można wyróżnić cztery grupy ideowe: liberałów (w znaczeniu amerykańskim; stanowią oni większość tzw. Republikanów tylko z nazwy), konserwatywnych liberałów, konserwatystów i neokonserwatystów. Od czasów rządów prezydenta Ronalda Reagana dominuje ta druga grupa. Republikanie popierają:

  • wolny rynek,
  • niskie podatki,
  • walkę z monopolami,
  • mniej ograniczeń dla wielkich korporacji,
  • walkę z przestępczością,
  • prawo do posiadania broni palnej dla każdego,
  • ograniczenie wydatków na pomoc socjalną,
  • rozwój armii,
  • walkę z terroryzmem.

Partia Republikańska bardziej niż Partia Demokratyczna akcentuje przywiązanie do wartości chrześcijańskich, np.

The flag of Navassa Island is simply the United States flag. It does not have a "local" flag or "unofficial" flag; it is an uninhabited island. The version with a profile view was based on Flags of the World and as a fictional design has no status warranting a place on any Wiki. It was made up by a random person with no connection to the island, it has never flown on the island, and it has never received any sort of recognition or validation by any authority. The person quoted on that page has no authority to bestow a flag, "unofficial" or otherwise, on the island.

Warren G. Harding, by Harris & Ewing. Warren Gamaliel Harding (November 2, 1865 – August 2, 1923) was the 29th president of the United States, serving from 1921 until his death in 1923. A member of the Republican Party, he was one of the most popular U.S. presidents to that point. After his death, a number of scandals, including the Teapot Dome scandal, came to light, as did his extramarital affair with Nan Britton; those eroded his popular regard.
