Powderfinger – australijski zespół rockowy. Założony został w Brisbane w 1989, zaś od 1992 tworzą go: wokalista Bernard Fanning, gitarzyści Darren Middleton i Ian Haug, basista John Collins i perkusista Jon Coghill[1].
Powedrfinger zyskał sławę dzięki albumowi Internationalist wydanemu w 1998. Od tego czasu zespół nagrał kilka tytułów i wygrał szereg prestiżowych nagród, w tym piętnastokrotnie ARIA Music Awards[2]. Niektóre albumy grupy osiągnęły status multiplatynowej płyty, a także pierwszą piątkę cotygodniowych notowań ARIA Charts[3]. Odyssey Number Five, najważniejszy album w historii formacji, zdobył status ośmiokrotnej platynowej płyty, a także otrzymał ARIA Awards w pięciu kategoriach[4].
Po wydaniu pierwszego DVD These Days: Live in Concert i albumu typu „greatest hits” zespół zawiesił swoją działalność w 2005. W 2007 grupa wybrała się na dwumiesięczną trasę koncertową wraz z zespołem Silverchair pt. Across the Great Divide Tour; w tym samym roku zespół wydał album studyjny pt. Dream Days at the Hotel Existence.
Zespół w trakcie swojej kilkunastoletniej kariery wyróżnił się aktywnym wspomaganiem akcji charytatywnych. W 2005 zespół zagrał w Sydney koncert z cyklu WaveAid w celu zebrania środków na pomoc ofiarom trzęsienia ziemi na Oceanie Indyjskim w 2004. Dochody z koncertu w Sydney Opera House (październik 2007) zostały przekazane na walkę z rakiem piersi. Głównym celem Across the Great Divide Tour było promowanie organizacji charytatywnej Reconciliation Australia[5].
