Prezydent Austrii pełni funkcję głównie ceremonialną. Jest on wybierany na kadencję sześcioletnią, z zastrzeżeniem, że może być ponownie wybrany. Wyłonienie głowy państwa odbywa się w głosowaniu powszechnym. Prezydent powołuje kanclerza.
