Obrońcą Pucharu Świata wśród mężczyzn był Szwed Gunde Svan, a wśród kobiet reprezentantka ZSRR Jelena Välbe.
W tym sezonie w pucharze świata triumfowała Łarisa Łazutina wśród kobiet oraz Vegard Ulvang wśród mężczyzn.
