Miejscowość położona jest ok. 35 km na zachód od Nyköping w prowincji historycznej (landskap) Södermanland, nad jeziorem Stavsjön. Na północ od Stavsjö przebiega trasa europejska E4.
W 2010 r. Stavsjö liczyło 212 mieszkańców[2].

Stavsjö railway station (Swedish State Railways, SJ) in Sweden. The narrow-gauge tracks in the bottom left corner belongs to Stafsjö Järnväg. The SJ main line was electrified in 1932 and Stafsjö Järnväg was closed and the track lifted in 1939.
