Pistolet dowolny, 50 m to jedna w sześciu konkurencji strzeleckich rozgrywanych podczas igrzysk olimpijskich w 1960 w Rzymie. Wystartowało 67 zawodników z 40 krajów.
Rozegrano dwie rundy: kwalifikacyjną i finałową.

Runda kwalifikacyjna odbyła się 5 września. Każdy ze strzelców oddawał 40 strzałów w czterech seriach. Zawodnicy startowali w dwóch grupach. Do finału kwalifikowało się po 27 strzelców z najlepszymi wynikami z każdej grupy[3].
