Kwalifikacje
- Zasady kwalifikacji[1]
- W zawodach uczestniczy w sumie 131 zawodników i zawodniczek (po 16 lub 17 dla każdej kategorii wagowej i płci). Każdy kraj mógł wystawić maksymalnie ośmiu zawodników (po cztery osoby dla płci).
- Pierwszym sposobem kwalifikacji jest ranking opublikowany w grudniu 2019. Po sześciu najlepszych zawodników i zawodniczek zakwalifikowało się automatycznie.
- Kolejnym sposobem uzyskania kwalifikacji są turnieje kontynentalne. Awans na igrzyska wywalczyło dwoje najlepszych zawodników z Europy, Afryki, Azji i obu Ameryk oraz po jednym zawodniku z Oceanii.
- Jeśli dany kraj poprzez ranking wywalczył cztery miejsca, nie mógł brać udziału w turniejach kontynentalnych. Wyjątkiem było zrzeczenie się kwalifikacji olimpijskiej. Wtedy otrzymywał ją kolejny zawodnik z rankingu.
- Cztery miejsca zarezerwowane były dla gospodarzy – Japonii, zaś siedem stanowiły "dzikie karty".
