W 2010 roku odbył się 88 mecz o Tarczę Wspólnoty, w którym zmierzyli się zwycięzca Premier League i Pucharu Anglii – Chelsea i zdobywca drugiego miejsca w Premier League z poprzedniego sezonu – Manchester United. Mecz został rozegrany na Wembley w Londynie, 8 sierpnia 2010[1]. Manchester United wygrał mecz 3–1[2] po golach Antonio Valencii, Javiera Hernándeza i Dimityra Berbatowa. Dla Chelsea honorowego gola strzelił Salomon Kalou. Manchester United po raz 18 sięgnął po Tarczę Wspólnoty.
Chelsea podeszła do meczu jako posiadacz trofeum, który zdobyła w 2009 roku. O Tarczę zazwyczaj walczą zwycięzcy Premier League i FA Cup, ale ponieważ Chelsea wygrała obydwie rozgrywki, Manchester United zagrał tu dzięki drugiemu miejscu w Premier League. To już trzeci pojedynek w przeciągu czterech lat o samą Tarczę Wspólnoty.
