Kariera tenisowa
Zawodowy tenisista w latach 2006–2019.
W grze pojedynczej w zawodach wielkoszlemowych zadebiutował podczas US Open 2010, przegrywając w 1. rundzie z Thomazem Belluccim.
W grze podwójnej Amerykanin w lipcu 2013 roku awansował do finału zawodów ATP World Tour w Newport, gdzie tworzył parę z Rhyne’em Williamsem.
W rankingu gry pojedynczej Smyczek najwyżej był na 68. miejscu (6 kwietnia 2015), a w klasyfikacji gry podwójnej na 160. pozycji (24 lutego 2014).

After winning his first round match against Niels Desein 6-3, 6-2. He also won his next round but fell to Alex Kuznetsov in four sets in the final round. Unfortunately for him, he missed out on one of the four Lucky Loser spots even though he was the highest ranked losing finalist.
