Jon Pertwee, odtwórca roli Trzeciego Doktora

Trzeci Doktor (ang. Third Doctor) – postać fikcyjna związana z brytyjskim serialem science-fiction pt. Doktor Who, w którą wcielił się Jon Pertwee[1]. Postać pojawiała się w serialu regularnie w latach 1970-1974[1] (co łącznie składa się na pięć sezonów) oraz gościnnie w historiach The Five Doctors z 1983[2] i Dimensions in Time z 1993[3].

Opis postaci

Postać jest trzecim wcieleniem tytułowej postaci serialu, Doktora. Trzeci Doktor wyróżniał się od innych swoich wcieleń, tym, że był silnie związany z UNIT-em. Wątek związany w jakiś sposób z tą organizacją pojawia się niemalże w każdym odcinku. Dwóch towarzyszy, Liz oraz Jo, trzeci Doktor uzyskał dzięki UNIT-owi.

Trzeci Doktor tak jak inne wcielenia podróżuje TARDIS-em oraz walczy z przeciwnikami. Podczas swoich podróży Doktor spotyka wrogów, znanych także z poprzednich historii, np. Daleków, mimo to głównym wrogiem dla tego wcielenia staje się nowy przeciwnik – Mistrz. Pod koniec swojej kadencji Doktor napotyka się również na Sontarianów, którzy w późniejszych historiach okazują się przeciwnikiem równym Cybermenom czy Dalekom.

Trzeciemu Doktorowi towarzyszyły jedynie trzy kobiety. Pierwszą z nich jest Elizabeth "Liz" Shaw, członkini UNITu. Jo Grant, druga towarzyszka, również była członkinią UNIT-u, była asystentką Doktora przez 3 sezony. Trzecia towarzyszka to dziennikarka Sara Jane Smith, która była obecna wraz z Brygadierem podczas regeneracji. Czasami do towarzyszy Trzeciego Doktora zalicza się również Brygadiera Lethbridge-Stewarta, kapitana Mike Yatesa oraz sierżanta Bentona[4].

BBC sci-fi series 'Doctor Who' was first broadcast on BBC One at 5.15pm on Saturday November 23, 1963. It was created as an educational family show to fit between the football results and evening entertainment programmes. Doctor Who was the brainchild of Canadian TV producer and BBC Head of Drama, Sydney Newman. The fiftieth anniversary special episode of the long-running series is 'The Day of the Doctor', which will be screened simultaneously in 76 countries on 23 November 2013 and will be the world's biggest drama simulcast.


This image is of actor Jon Pertwee, who played the Third Doctor for five seasons from 3 January 1970 to 8 June 1974. Pertwee played the character as an active, suave and technologically oriented crusader. The Third Doctor came into existence as part of a punishment from his own race, the Time Lords, who forced him to regenerate and disabled his TARDIS. As a result he spent much time stranded on Earth, where he worked as a scientific advisor to British military organisation, UNIT. Eventually this restriction was lifted and he embarked on more traditional time travel and space exploration stories. In 1983 Pertwee appeared again as the Third Doctor in the 20th anniversary special episode 'The Five Doctors', and then finally in a charity special episode 'Dimensions in Time' in 1993.

There is a large amount of photographic and audio visual material in this series, which were intended for publicity, internal training, and to show NZ Post history.
