World Baseball Classic – baseballowy turniej międzynarodowy zarządzany przez Międzynarodową Federację Baseballu (IBAF). Zwycięzca turnieju ogłaszany jest mistrzem świata[1].
Historia
Utworzony w 2005 roku przez Major League Baseball, Związek Zawodowy Baseballistów (ang. Major League Baseball Players Association) oraz inne ligi zawodowe na świecie turniej do 2011 roku odbywał się równolegle z nieorganizowanymi już mistrzostwami świata w baseballu, a do 2008 roku z wycofanym z programu turniejem olimpijskim[2][3][4].
Pierwszy World Baseball Classic, w którym uczestniczyło 16 zespołów, miał miejsce w 2006 roku, a pierwszym zwycięzcą została Japonia[2]. Od 2009 turniej rozgrywany jest co cztery lata[5]. W marcu 2013 w turnieju zagrało 16 zespołów, a runda finałowa odbyła się w San Francisco, na stadionie San Francisco Giants AT&T Park (komplet uczestników wyłoniła runda kwalifikacyjna, łącznie do turnieju przystąpiło 28 zespołów)[6][7].

There are branches of olive and palm around the shield and above on the ribbon is the motto "Dios,Patria!, Libertad" ("God, Country, Freedom") and to amiable freedom. The blue is said to stand for liberty, red for the fire and blood of the independence struggle and the white cross symbolized that God has not forgotten his people. "Republica Dominicana". The Dominican flag was designed by Juan Pablo Duarte, father of the national Independence of Dominican Republic. The first dominican flag was sewn by a young lady named Concepción Bona, who lived across the street of El Baluarte, monument where the patriots gathered to fight for the independence, the night of February 27th, 1844. Concepción Bona was helped by her first cousin María de Jesús Pina.
