Wydra^[8]^[b] (Lutra) – rodzaj ssaka z podrodziny wydr (Lutrinae) w obrębie rodziny łasicowatych (Mustelidae).

Zasięg występowania

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Eurazji^[9]^[10]^[11].

Morfologia

Długość ciała 50–82 cm, długość ogona 33–50 cm; masa ciała 3,5–14 kg (samce są większe i cięższe od samic)^[10].

Systematyka

Etymologia

Lutra (Lutris, Lutrix): łac. lutra „wydra”^[12].
Barangia: sumatrzańska nazwa barang dla wydry^[13]. Gatunek typowy: Barangia sumatrana J.E. Gray, 1865.
Lutronectes: rodzaj Lutra Brisson, 1762; νηκτης nēktēs „pływak”, od νηχω nēkhō „pływać”^[14]. Gatunek typowy: Lutronectes whiteleyi J.E. Gray, 1867 (= Mustela lutra Linnaeus, 1758).
Mamlutraus: modyfikacja zaproponowana przez meksykańskiego przyrodnika Alfonso Luisa Herrerę w 1899 roku polegająca na dodaniu do nazwy rodzaju ssaków przedrostka Mam (od Mammalia)^[15].

Lutra sumatrana (J.E. Gray, 1865) – wydra sumatrzańska

Ochrona

W Polsce wydry podlegają ochronie częściowej^[16].
