Atmospheric pressure during the Storm of October 1987 recorded on a barograph with a pivoted arm at the BP Research Laboratories, Sunbury, Surrey. The image shows that the minimum pressure at 03:00 on 16 October 1987 was 72.1 cm Hg (961 mbar). The very steep rise in pressure that followed the minimum is indicative of very high winds.
