Photo of a stoker. Steam is raised at the Engineerium in the traditional way. Coal stoked boilers and a lot of hard work.
Note also that this is a Lancashire boiler, rather than an earlier Cornish boiler, as can be seen by the frontplate seam being flanged outwards rather than inwards.
