The autograph below presents Faehlmann's favourite maxime: "Kurz ist das Leben, doch lang die Kunst", "The life is short, but(*) the art long(**)".
That sentence was set on his grave in Estonian later.
(*) as a conjuction, mot as a preposition; (**) here meaning something like "eternal"
