Seated proudly on horseback, Leopold I. leaps over a toppled Ottoman warrior. The imaginary battlefield is strewn with Turkish and French trophies. Together with its pendant, an equestrian portrait of Joseph I, this work constitutes a propagandistic double memorial which was displayed in the Imperial Treasure Chamber, thus illustrating the preeminent position of the House of Hapsburg as major European power.
