Caricature of the 1833 partition of the Swiss canton of Basel. The aristocratic-conservative bourgeois (left) from Basel-City draws a smaller slice than the liberal peasant from Basel-Country. This caricature is modeled after a well-known 1805 cartoon by James Gillray, "The Plum Pudding in Danger."
