Opis:

Robin Hyde (1906-39) is remembered as one of New Zealand’s most significant writers. A poet, novelist and journalist, she is best known today for her novels Passport to hell, Nor the years condemn and The godwits fly. Born Iris Wilkinson, she came to New Zealand from South Africa as a baby. Her life was full of tragedy, and she was found dead in London on 23 August 1939, aged just 33 years old. She had committed suicide by Benzedrine poisoning. The image above is from a series of 1993 Suffrage Centennial Year Trust posters. The posters were created to support an exhibition on 'Wonderful Wellington Women' - a collaboration between the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Wellington City Council. Katherine Mansfield, Lady Miria Pomare, Rita Angus and Mother Mary Aubert also feature in the series.
