A plaque commemorating the Black Tom Explosion sits on its site inside a circle of American flags. Note: This photograph was taken a few feet from the commemorative plaque marking the site of the Black Tom Explosion, with some effort to use the New Jersey flags to frame the Statue of Liberty. This gives some impression of the distance that shrapnel needed to travel to strike the Statue of Liberty.
