Stig Sollander, to the left, won Sweden's first Olympic medal in alpine skiing at the 1956 Winter Olympics. It was a bronze medal in slalom. Tony Sailer from Austria won the gold medal and Chiharu Chick Igaya from Japan won the silver medal.
