Opis:

The Vought XSB3U-1 (BuNo 9834) at the NACA Langley Research Center, Virginia (USA), 1 December 1938. One plane was built, making its first flight in 1936. It was basically a SBU-2 and the first biplane built by Vought with retractable gear. It was offered to the U.S. Navy at the same time as XSB2U-1 Vindicator monoplane, in case the SB2U was not bought by the U.S. Navy. Note that the XSB3U-1 has a test boom off the left upper wing. The plane was at Langley for NACA's investigation of tail loads.
